What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Founded in the early 20th century, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or BJJ, is a martial art that focuses on controlling an opponent, taking your opponent to the ground, gaining a dominant position, and using techniques such as chokes and joint locks to force your opponent to give up (by using a physical or verbal submission aka "tap-out").
BJJ helped to develop the sport of submission grappling. Submission grappling is a quickly growing combat sport that uses body control and ground fighting to submit an opponent, without using any striking or weapons.
